Roy L. Brister was once called "one of the fastest men in the South." That speed was evident in both his football and track efforts.

A transfer from Louisiana State University, Brister began running track for Louisiana College in 1933 and was the iron man of the team, having the ability to run any event in the book. Track captain in 1935, he broke the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA) record for his specialty, the 880, clocking in at 1:56.3, 3.7 seconds faster than the old record. He also placed second in the SL Relay Carnival during his time at LC.

Brister was first placed in the backfield by football coach Henry E. Walden, before being moved to his permanent position as right end. As one of the two terminal positions, Brister excelled both offensively and defensively. Playing faultlessly on the offense, he was an enthusiastic pass receiver. Defensively, Brister was known for his ability to diagnose his opponent's plays and respond to them quickly. His abilities were nationally recognized in 1935 when he was named to the Small College All-American Team.

Involved in more than merely sports, Brister was president of his senior class, senior representative on Student Council and a member not only of the Orange L Club, but the Athenian Literary Society and the Dramatic Club as well.

The Wildcat Athletic Association proudly inducted Roy L. Brister as a member of the Louisiana College Sports Hall of Fame on February 13, 1993.
