Marie Gagnard Montet of Crowley was the first player to ever receive a Louisiana College tennis scholarship. In addition to her varsity honors earned at LC, Montet has held state rankings as high as Number Two in women's doubles and Number Six in women's singles. Her most visible achievement as a professional umpire has been her consistent selection as an umpire for the U.S. Open in New York. She first joined the U.S. Open umpiring staff in 1984 and has been on the courts for nine tournaments since then.
