Al Sandahl was a tight end for the Wildcats during his time at Louisiana College in the 1960s. After graduating with a degree in Physical Education and Social Studies and a brief stint in the Canadian Football League, Al began his coaching career at West Hill High School in Montreal, Quebec, Canada for the football and basketball teams there.Â
Even when the CFL came calling again Sandahl knew his heart was in coaching and returned to Louisiana where he accepted assistant coaching jobs at Jonesboro-Hodge then Mansfield, which led to head coaching positions at Arcadia and DeRidder. With a few years under his belt at the high school level, Al relished the challenge of coaching Division I football.Â
Mississippi State gave Al his first taste of college football coaching as a wide receivers coach. From there he would go on to coach at major Division I programs like Oklahoma State, Washington State, UCLA, Colorado State, Iowa State, Syracuse, and Kansas State. Sandahl then got an opportunity to coach at the pinnacle of football when he joined the staff of the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League. Sandahl is now a coach at Elysian Fields High School, where he as the opportunity to teach the game to a whole new generation of players
