For nearly four decades as coach, athletic director, and teacher at Louisiana College, one thing typifies Billy Allgood: work ethic.

His accomplishments at LC range from 327 career basketball victories to personally building the baseball facility that deservedly bears his name. In between, there's a passion for sports and personal integrity, a zeal for excellence in the classroom, and numerous little known acts of kindness to players, students, friends, and strangers.

Allgood came to LC as head basketball coach and assistant football coach in 1959. He was appointed athletic director in 1965 and was given head baseball coach responsibilities in 1969.

A fiercely competitive basketball coach, Allgood belongs to an elite group of NAIA coaches with 300 career victories. In 26 seasons, LC was involved in post-season playoffs in six of Allgood's last nine campaigns, and he led the Wildcats to their first national championship tournament berth in 1979.

Twice, Allgood was chosen NAIA District 30 Coach of the Year, and he was picked as coach of the North team in the 1979 and 1980 Louisiana collegiate all-star games. In 1986, the Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches tabbed Allgood "Mr. Louisiana Basketball," and the group inducted him into its Hall of Fame in 1990.  Allgood has also been elected to the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.

Allgood guided the baseball Wildcats to a District 30 title and berth in the NAIA regional playoffs.

Allgood is also a member of the University of Southern Mississippi Hall of Fame for his skills as an uncompromising defensive specialist and playmaker during one of the most noteworthy periods in USM basketball history.
