Dr. Thomas Howell

Dr. Thomas Howell has held a life-long love for athletics. A member of the Pineville High School State Championship football team in 1960, he has continued his involvement in aports ever since.

Howell was instrumental in creating the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, assisting in the writing of the GCAC constitution and serving as its Commissioner since its inception in 1981.

He served as the faculty athletics representative for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, District 30, from 1978-1982 and has served as chair of the NAIA District 30/GCAC Eligibility Committee since 1981.

Howell has also served on the NAIA National Eligibility Committee since 1983 and has been its chair since 1995. He also became the NAIA Constitution and Bylaw Committee chair in 1995.

Under Howell's guidance, the GCAC has become one of the strongest conferences in the NAIA.

Howell also officiated high school football and basketball games and is known as a reliable resource on questions of rules and regulations. He is committed to personal fitness and is a jogger who has inspired many others to participate in the sport.

Howell was one of the few students to graduate from LC with a 4.0 GPA.  He was a professor in the History Department at LC until 2006, when he took a similar role at William Jewell College in Missouri.

Married to the former Donna Jo Walker, Howell has two daughters, Kate and Jenny.

The Wildcat Athletic Association proudly inducted Dr. Thomas Howell into the Louisiana College Sports Hall of Fame on February 26, 1999.
