Carrall "Shorty" Barron is one of the few players in Louisiana College history to have played in 3 sports during his four years at Louisiana College.
A member of the Orange L Club in football, Barron held the terminal position of left end. He brought skills from both track and basketball to the gridiron. A fierce tackler and forceful blocker, he sometimes surprised his opponents with his quick speed and his hustling ability. The long run and jump marked Barron's pass interception style, often outmaneuvering opponents. In 1935, Barron became the first Louisiana College player to ever be named to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association Associated Press First Team.
An outstanding man at the post position, Barron was the basketball captain his senior year. Already having experience as the track captain in 1934, Barron was the ideal choice for a Wildcat leader. In the track arena, Barron ran the 100 and 200 yard dashes but excelled in the long jump. During his senior year, Barron had the distinction of holding the SIAA long jump record. Barron was voted best athlete by his peers after the 1935 season.
A Pineville native, Barron remained in Pineville after graduation from LC and continued his family business, Barron's Store, and his support of Louisiana College.
The Wildcat Athletic Association proudly inducted Carroll "Shorty" Barron as a member of the Louisiana College Sports Hall of Fame on February 13, 1993.
