The late John Rudd, a 1951 graduate of Louisiana College, was an exceptional collegiate football player who went on to play professional football and to coach football in Louisiana.
Rudd, along with his brother Jim, played tackle for the Wildcats and was a defensive standout. He was named Little All American Honorable Mention during his junior year and Little All American in his senior year. He was on the All Gulf States Conference teams in 1949 and 1950.
He also ran track from 1947-1951.
Rudd took an active part in campus life. He was a member of the Cadmian Literary Society, the Math Club, and the P.E. Club. He was Sergeant At Arms of the L Club in 1949. Rudd was named to the 1951 edition of Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities.
The Mt. Pleasant, TX, native received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Louisiana College.
After graduation, Rudd signed a contract to play with the New York Giants, he left for New York 17 days after marrying his wife, Frankie. Two months later, he returned home to Louisiana.
Rudd coached football at DeRidder for 15 years and eventually retired as a principal.
The Wildcat Athletic Association proudly inducted John Rudd into the Louisiana College Sports Hall of Fame posthumously on February 23, 1996.
