Hall of Fame
Bernard Callender earned 11 varsity letters at LC. Although he played track and started for the basketball team for four years, it is his football ability for which he is best remembered. Callender, a 1952 grad, made the Associated Press Little All-America teams as split-end in both 1950 and '51. He was named "No. 1 Small College Pass Catching End" by the New York press, established three national records in 1950 and broke 10 Gulf States Conference standards along the way. His 57 catches for 1,099 yards and 12 touchdowns in a season all were national records. Callender signed a contract with the New York Giants but went into public education instead of professional football.
