"Big" Gene Bullard was already an athletic sensation by the time he arrived at Louisiana College. During his time at LC, he surpassed the expectations fans and coaches held of him. He was a true and dedicated athlete.

Bullard hails from Hamilton, Texas where he lettered in football, basketball, and track while in high school. He was named to the All District Football Team in 1948 and was All County and All Regional during his 1947-48 basketball season.

The 250-pound tackle was known as "Mr. Defense" to his Wildcat football teammates and opponents alike. Bullard wanted to be a part of every tackle made while he was on the field.

When the basketball Wildcats found themselves short on members, Bullard found his home at the center position on the hardwood. He was one of the pleasant surprises on the team that year.

Bullard threw the shot put, javelin, and discuss for the track team and garnered 46 points in the 1952 track season, placing first in two events at the Gulf States Conference meet.

He was drafted by the New York Giants after graduation but chose instead to work for Continental Oil Company and Vista Chemical from 1953 until his retirement in 1989. He owned and operated a golf cart business until 1992.

The Wildcat Athletic Association proudly inducted Gene Bullard into the Louisiana College Sports Hall of Fame on February 17, 1995.
