Clarence "Pug" Corley was a football sensation at Louisiana College, receiving many school honors and eventually l Letters of inquiry from both the Detroit Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Corley was offered a football scholarship in 1938 and was awarded the first of his three "L" awards in 1939. In 1940, he received an Honorable Mention award as All-Conference Guard in the L.I.C. Conference.
In 1941, Corley was elected co-captain of the team and averaged 56 minutes of playing time per game. That same year, the LC Student Council awarded him their Gold Football Award for Athletic Achievement.
Active in campus activities, Corley was a member of the Baptist Student Union and served as secretary of the "L" Club and as sports editor of the Pineknot.
Upon his graduation, he entered the United States Marine Corps and served with them until his retirement in 1965. Lt. Colonel Corley received two silver star medals, a bronze medal and a purple heart for his combat actions. He also served in units that received five Presidential Unit citations and participated in nine combat actions in World War II and Korea.
After retirement from the Marine Corps, he worked in the health care administration field until 1991.
Corley has been active as an alumnus in the life of Louisiana College, supporting both fund raising activities and local alumni clubs.
The Wildcat Athletic Association proudly inducted Clarence "Pug" Corley into the Louisiana College Sports Hall of Fame on February 23, 1996.
