Yates earned nine letters in football, basketball, baseball, and track at Pineville High and led the Twin Cities in scoring with 406 points in 1957.

His versatile play continued at LC, as he received three letters in both football and baseball. He was also a member of the LC basketball squad for one season.

Yates earned a place among Wildcat football "1,000 yarders" during his three-year gridiron career. His overall total was an impressive 1,218 yard total offense. Other noteworthy Yates stats include 295 yards rushing with six touchdowns and 923 yards passing with four touchdowns.

In 1962, Yates led the team in total offense (574 yards) with 100 yards rushing and two touchdowns and 474 yards passing for one touchdown. He was named permanent co-captain with fellow teammate, Cleve Roberts, that same year.

Yates' coaching career is as stellar as his playing career. Many of the teams he has coached have been district champions, and he has been named District Coach of the Year three times.

An avid golfer, Yates routinely finishes in the top 10 in senior events. He spent 33 years in education around the state and is retired from the Rapides Parish School System.

The Wildcat Athletic Association proudly inducted C.G. "Corky" Yates into the Louisiana College Sports Hall of Fame on February 23, 1996.
