A Little All-America at quarterback in 1937, Devonne Payne was rising quickly in the coaching ranks before his untimely death in 1958. Payne, a 1939 grad, coached at LC and Northeast Louisiana University. He also coached at Tallulah High School where he posted a 130-35-4 record and reached the state finals four times.
