Don Jones is a 1971 graduate of Louisiana College, and played on the last football team before the program was put on hold after the ‘69 season. He continued his relationship with the athletic program by becoming a basketball statistician and travel assistant to legendary Coach Billy Allgood.Â
Jones began his high school coaching career after his graduation that would span seven different schools and over 40 years. Some of his coaching stops include LaSalle High School, Sterlington, Crowley, Winnfield and Woodlawn in Baton Rouge. He also spent five years as the quarterback and receivers coach at the University of Southwestern Louisiana from 1986-1993. Â
As a head football coach, Jones compiled 233 wins, including four perfect 10-0 seasons at Plaquemine High School, won 15 district titles, made over 20 playoff appearances, and was named coach of the year 12 times across three different classifications. He saw over 170 of his players earn All-District honors, 100 All-State honors, and coached two All-Americans.  While coaching football and track at Sterlington High School, his track team won a state championship and was state runner-up. He was twice selected to coach the Louisiana High School All-Star Game.Â
He is a long-time member of the Louisiana Federation of Teachers, Louisiana High School Football Association and the Louisiana High School Coaches Association. He serves of the LHSCA Executive Council and was elected LHSCA president in 2002. In April 2017, Jones was inducted into the Louisiana High School Sports Hall of Fame. Coach Jones is currently Head Football Coach and Athletic Director at Berwick Junior High School.
