The first female athlete to ever receive an athletic scholarship from Louisiana College, Debbie Dixon Brasher remains one of the most impactful female athletes in school history. One of the most versatile and gifted players in LC women’s basketball history, Dixon Brasher started every game of her four year career at point guard for the Lady Wildcats. The 1977 LC team MVP, Dixon Brasher led her Lady Wildcat teams to landmark wins over in-state Division I opponents LSU, Northwestern State, UL-Monroe, McNeese State, and UL-Lafayette among many others. After averaging  17.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game as a freshman in 1977, Dixon Brasher would go on to lead the Lady Wildcats to two of the most memorable seasons in school history as a junior in 1979 and a senior in 1980. After leading her team to a 20-11 overall record and a SWAIAW Regional appearance in 1979, Dixon Brasher would then lead LC to the 1980 AIAW Final Four and a Division II State Championship as a senior in 1980. That 1980 season would see Dixon Brasher average a career-high 7.1 assists per game, including a career-high 19 assists against LSU and 16 assists in the game that would send the Lady Wildcats to the Final Four.  Dixon Brasher was also named a member of the prestigious LAUSSSA Slow Pitch Softball Hall of Fame following her playing career at Louisiana College.  Debbie is retired after 25 years of teaching and coaching at every level: elementary, middle school and high school.  She coached Peabody to the 2006 Sweet 16 in her only year as head coach.  She took Tioga softball to the playoffs every year for the 6 years she coached there and also coached LC girls’ basketball as an assistant for one year.  Debbie is married to LC Alumnus David Brasher and they have two children, Lance and Kelli, who both coach basketball in local high schools.  Kelli is also a former lady Wildcat.

As cited herein, Debbie Dixon Brasher’s achievements and honors are numerous.  For these reasons, Louisiana College proudly inducts Debbie Dixon Brasher into the Louisiana College Sports Hall of Fame for 2015-2016.
