Harry Welch Jr. of Boyce has been a recognizable figure in Cenla athletics for years, first as a player at Jena High School and later as a coach and administrator in the Rapides Parish School System. Welch lettered in both football and baseball and received All District honors in baseball at JHS. 

Originally a walk-on in the mid-1980's, Welch set numerous records for homeruns and RBIs in Louisiana College baseball.  His career home run record still stands. In his eight years of coaching, he has been named District Softball Coach of the Year three times. One of his teams won the first District Softball Championship in Alexandria Senior High School's history.
