Coach Kite Caudell came to Louisiana College in 1919 from Chicago where he had been athletic director in Lincoln Park. As printed in a 1919 issue of The Messenger "Coach Caudell had been tireless in his efforts and from the very first had gone about his work in a manner which inspired confidence."
Caudell did indeed inspire confidence in his players as he led them to a 4-1 record his first season as head coach. He was a competent and efficient coach who had a very definite notion of what every man on the team should do, and if he knew any procedure other than HARD WORK, he waited he waited until the season was over to use it.
Caudell was one of the boys when he was off the field, but when it came time for practice, all foolishness was put aside and he buckled down to real work. He had no favorites and would not stand back talk from anyone. Everyone strictly adhered to his training rules. Coach Caudell was popular with his players on this account for they knew that he was boss, but they also knew they would get a fair deal from him.
Beginning his career at LC in 1919, Caudell stayed with LC as coach and trainer for 16 years. His memory is honored each year with the presentation of the Coach Kite Caudell Award which is presented yearly to the male and female athlete who exemplify courage, determination, high moral character, and demonstrate academic ability.
The Wildcat Athletic Association proudly inducted Coach Kite Caudell as a charter member of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame on February 22, 1992.
