Chiles Carpenter was an outstanding Louisiana College athlete during the late 1940s and early 1950s.
While at Oakdale High School, Carpenter was an All-State football player who played in two All-State All-Star games. He was the Outstanding High Hurdler in 1947 through 1950.
A four-year letterman in football, Carpenter also ran track for the Wildcats and lettered in that sport three times. He was named to the All-Conference Second Team in 1950 and was captain of the football team.
After graduating from Louisiana College in 1951, Carpenter was a successful high school coach for 20 years. His teams have been the District Champions in both football and track.
He served as the superintendent of the Union Parish School District for 17 years and has 38 years of experience in education.
Carpenter is also a former two-term member of the Louisiana College Board of Trustees.
He and his wife, the former Hilda Revels, have two children, Colleen Brasher and Collete Breard, and three grandsons.
The Wildcat Athletic Association inducted Chiles Carpenter into the Louisiana College Sports Hall of Fame on October 19, 2001.
