Malvin Sistrunk, a 1959 graduate of LC, was a great athlete and an excellent coach. He began his playing career at Holly Ridge High School where he lettered in football, basketball, baseball, and track. He excelled, however, in football. He was named to the football All-district team and All-state team and was chosen to play in the 1955 Louisiana All-Star football game.

Sistrunk played and lettered in football at Louisiana State University one year before transferring to Louisiana College. He lettered three years in football and was chosen Most Valuable Lineman in 1958. That team went 9-2 for the season and was the Rice Bowl Champion.

His head coaching career lasted for 10 years, and he coached at Bernice High School, Block High School, and Arcadia High School, amassing a record of 66-30-4. His Arcadia baseball team won the state baseball championship in 1965, and he was selected to coach the high school All-Star football game in 1973.

He also served as Assistant Football Coach at Louisiana College for two years before becoming the principal at Farmerville High School. He served as a supervisor in Union Parish for 10 years and served as the Union Parish Superintendent of Schools for seven years before retiring.

Sistrunk is married to the former Sharon Brooks, a 1963 graduate of LC. The two have three daughters: Sharra, Suzonne and Sheryl, and three grandchildren.

The Wildcat Athletic Association proudly inducted Malvin Sistrunk into the Louisiana College Sports Hall of Fame on February 26, 1998.
