A life-long athlete, Levi Barber played football for the Louisiana College Wildcats in the early 1960s.

He attended Hines Junior College from 1956 to 1958. The final compliment of his outstanding junior college career was when Mr. Barber was selected as a Junior College All American. He finished with more than 1,500 yards rushing and was selected as an All State team member in both seasons with the Hines Junior College Eagles. He was inducted into the Hines Community College Sports Hall of Fame in 1992 for his accomplishments in football, basketball, and track.

After completing his junior college career, Mr. Barber was stationed on the USS Forrestal from 1959 until 1961. As a member of the Sixth Fleet, the USS Forrestal patrolled the Mediterranean Sea. He completed his tour of duty in 1961 as an Aviation Boatsman Mate Third Class.

LC Coach Jug Knight described Mr. Barber as "the little pro" soon after Mr. Barber began his playing career at LC. He was a half-back who could catch the football and was a threat to score from any position on the field. He was also an excellent field goal and extra point kicker for the Wildcats.

Mr. Barber has been married for 43 years to his wife, Susan. They have three children, Richard, Emily and Anna. They also have five grandchildren.

The Wildcat Athletic Association inducted Levi Barber into the Louisiana College Sports Hall of Fame on October 17, 2003.
