Ricky Reese has been called an outstanding shooter with all types of shots, a good defensive player, consistent rebounder, and a tremendous competitor.
Reese came to LC from Leesville to major in physical education in 1961. As a freshman forward, he was one of the finest outside shooters on the squad and eventually moved into a starting position.
A 6'5" 150-pound starter for the Wildcats for four years, Reese played his best games against the powerful schools like USL, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss. The highlight of his LC career came in 1965 during his senior season in a game against USL. Reese had 18 points on the night and set a new Louisiana College career scoring record with 1,280 points...and he still had five games remaining. Reese finished the record breaking year with 1,360 points averaging just over 18 points per game. His record stood for over 30 years. That same year, he was ranked 10th in the nation for free throw percentage shooting 88% from the line. For his outstanding leadership and performance during his senior season, Reese was named Most Valuable Player for the 1965 season.
After receiving a degree in physical education, Reese has spent the last 27 years contributing to the educational system in Louisiana as a coach and administrator. He has coached teams to the state quarter finals on five occasions and has been named District Coach of the Year three times. He has been active with the Louisiana High School Athletic Association for several years serving on various committees and he is also past president of the DeRidder Basketball Officials Association.
The Wildcat Athletic Association proudly inducted Richard J. "Ricky" Reese as a charter member of the Louisiana College Sports Hall of Fame on February 22, 1992.
