Debra Johnson-Lewis played women’s basketball from 1985 until 1989. During this time, she distinguished herself as one of the best players to ever wear a Lady Wildcat’s basketball uniform in the storied history of LC women’s basketball.

Johnson-Lewis played on two teams that won Gulf Coast Athletic Conference and NAIA District 30 Championships. In her freshman year, Johnson-Lewis was part of the LC women’s team that was ranked number one in the nation and advanced to the Final Four. While she was a senior, the Lady Wildcats once again captured the GCAC and District Championship and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament.

Individually, Johnson-Lewis averaged 17.4 career points per game and was a three-time All-Conference and All-District player. She achieved her best when she played as a junior and senior.

As a junior, Johnson-Lewis averaged 26.7 points per game and lead the GCAC in both free throw percentage (77.8%) and three-point field goal percentage (49.1%.) After her junior season, Johnson-Lewis was named to two All-American teams. She was a Second-Team NAIA All-American and an ASWF All-American.

As a senior, she was named the GCAC Player of the Year after leading the league in scoring (21.3 ppg.) Once again, she led the conference in free throw percentage (84.3%.) She was also recognized as an All-American for the second straight year, being named a Third-Team NAIA All-American.

Debra lives in Youngsville, Louisiana where she is a 13 year employee of the U.S. Postal Service. She is also the owner of Country Boy Lawn Care, Inc. Debra has been married for 13 years to Craig Lewis, and they have one daughter, Jasmine. In 2006, Debra Johnson Lewis had the honor of having her Peabody High School uniform jersey retired.
