Top-10 Wins Of 2023-24 | #5 – Women’s Basketball Stuns Texarkana At The Horn With Steal & Three-Pointer In Six Seconds

6/17/2024 12:00:00 PM

TEXARKANA, Texas – The Louisiana Christian University women's basketball program trailed by one without the ball as the scoreboard read 0:06 in the fourth quarter. A miracle would be needed to send the game to overtime, let alone win in regulation, but that's exactly what transpired. An'Tiesha Griffin got just enough of the Eagles' inbound pass (under the LCU basket) to gather herself, dive on top of the loose ball, dish it out to the wing and watch as teammate Princis Goff put an exclamation point on her breakout contest by swishing a trey for her 34th point of the night. And so kicked off her accolade-heavy superlative sophomore season as the Wildcats danced into the rainy Lone Star evening with a 68-66 RRAC and road opening heart-stopper.

Game Recap:

  • It was the first victory in a conference opener since rejoining the NAIA level in the 2021-22 athletic calendar and gave the ladies their first 3-0 start since 2014-15 . . . when Head Coach Anna Phillips was a junior basketball student-athlete for then Louisiana College.

  • Goff almost singlehandedly carried the Orange and Blue to success that night, as she was responsible for exactly half (34) of the club's 68 points courtesy of shooting 59% (13-of-22) from the field in addition to a game-high five steals plus five rebounds and a pair of assists.

            * The 34 points and 13 field goals were both team as well as personal season-bests. Making the feat even more amazing is the fact that her buzzer-beating triple marked the only time all year long that she connected on multiple attempts from distance, knocking down just seven more long balls the remainder of the campaign.

            * The coming out party was definitely a positive sign of things to come for one of the nation's top scorers in 2023-24 as she parlayed that moment into All-Louisiana Second Team and All-RRAC First Team postseason honors as well as being recognized as that week's RRAC Player of the Week on December 4.

            * In conclusion, players not sporting the initials of P.G. for Louisiana Christian wound up just 13-for-45 (28.9%).

  • Deja Tanks, the other half of the team's dynamic duo in 2023-24, came up just one point shy of beginning the year with three straight double-doubles, notching nine points while hauling down a match-most 12 boards.

  • Olivia Scott made her presence felt in numerous ways, dropping seven points and seven rebounds on the Eagles on top of a quartet of dimes.

  • Griffin was the unsung hero of the opener with her heads-up defensive effort in the waning seconds, but also led the Cats in assists by totaling five.
