WACO, Texas – The Louisiana Christian University men's basketball program reloaded in the offseason with a bunch of transfers, none bigger than
Devin Carter and
Bryce Weinmunson, as the duo of newcomers helped the Cats triple their win total from the season prior en route to First and Second Team All-RRAC selections, respectively.
Â
Carter, a former Alcorn Brave and Copiah-Lincoln CC Wolf from Edwards, Mississippi, was a three-point assassin, slotting third in the nation for long range makes per game (3.5), top-25 in threes per 40 minutes (4.8), top-30 in points per 40 minutes played (27.0), and 33rd in overall points a night (19.9).
Â
The junior guard took advantage of his opportunities at the free-throw line, leading the conference with an 84.8% success rate while scoring double-figures during each and every one of his 24 games as a Wildcat this season.
Â
Weinmunson, a former Carson-Newman Eagle and Clayton State Laker from Ponchatoula, Louisiana, was one of the top defenders in the country, ranking in the top-25 for total steals at 56 and averaging two a contest (top-35 in NAIA).
Â
Also, a junior guard, he was a constant on the hardwood, playing the second-most total minutes in the conference (885) and the fifth-highest average (31.5) in addition to teaming up with his teammate to form a lethal long-range combination at 1.7 treys a game to slot seventh leaguewide.
Â
Reni Mason was one of only four people to receive at least one first place vote for Coach of the Year, joining Dimario Jackson of LSUA (winner), Marcus Thompson of Our Lady of the Lake, and Alfred Williams of Xavier.
Â
Drew Tebbe, a junior guard from O'Fallon, Illinois, is LCU's RRAC Champions of Character Team recipient. The sharpshooter was one of the incumbents from the 2023-24 squad that persevered through the grind and came out on the other side, making a significant impact as a floor general by leading the Red River in both assist-to-turnover ratio (2.5) as well as three-point percentage (52.3%), ranking among the NAIA's elite in the latter.
Â
Coach Mason and the sixth-seeded men begin their quest for a championship on Friday morning at 9:45 a.m. versus third-seeded OLLU.
