Late Run Dooms Wildcats in Senior Day Defeat

23-6 Push Ruins Hopes of Sending Seniors Out with Win

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University men's basketball team was in a tight battle with Texas A&M-San Antonio, but the Jaguars pulled off a big run midway through the second half which doomed the Wildcats in a 71-55 loss Saturday evening on the Gene Rushing Court at H.O. West Fieldhouse.

Louisiana Christian (6-20, 4-16 RRAC) and Texas A&M-San Antonio (8-18, 7-13 RRAC) battled tightly throughout the first half. The Jaguars held the early edge, getting an eight-point lead at 12-4 with 11:30 left in the first half. LCU responded as a Drew Tebbe jumper started an 8-0 Wildcat run with a three-pointer by Jalani Bell tying the score at 12-12 with 7:30 left in the period.

The Wildcats pulled ahead late and a three by Bryce Weinmunson gave LCU a 24-18 lead with less than 30 seconds until halftime. A TAMUSA basket right before the buzzer cut that lead to four at the break, 24-20.

Both teams remained locked in the tight battle until there was 14 minutes left in the contest as a Weinmunson basket and-one cut a Jaguar lead down to just one point at 36-35. However, that's where the decisive run started as the Jaguars outscored the Wildcats 23-6 over the next seven minutes to bust the score open at 59-41 with 6:45 left. TAMUSA's lead peaked at 20 points, 71-51, with just about a minute left in the contest.

Justice Kelly led the Wildcats on his senior day, scoring 17 points and grabbing nine rebounds while blocking two shots and giving out a couple of assists.

Weinmunson scored 16 points on his senior day while also grabbing seven boards and giving out an assist.

Bell finished his senior day with 13 points while grabbing four rebounds and coming away with three steals.

With the home portion of the 2025-26 schedule complete, the Wildcats now head out on the road for the final two games of the season. The final trip of 2025-26 starts Thursday out in Hobbs, N.M., taking on the University of the Southwest. Tip-off of Thursday's contest against the Mustangs (5-21, 2-18 RRAC) is set for 7:30 p.m. MST/8:30 p.m. CST at the Jack & Mabel Maddox Student Life Center.
