Bergeron and Sterling Make All-Louisiana Squad

Louisiana College seniors Shelby Bergeron and Abby Sterling each picked up another postseason honor this week with their selection to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana softball team.

Bergeron adds to her impressive list of honors along with LC's first NFCA All-American selection since 2010, while Sterling earns a mention after her first All-West Region selection in her two seasons as a Wildcat.

Bergeron set the new single-season record for batting average, finishing at .462 on the year, with a team-high 55 hits and 36 runs scored. During the year she broke the school record for career stolen bases and became the first player to reach 100 steals in their career. She recoded her third straight season with 30 or more steals, swiping 34 bags on 39 attempts, the most on the team this year. She finished her career ranked in the top-10 all-time in five different offensive categories. She was fifth in runs scored (102), seventh in hits (150), fourth in career batting average (.361), fifth in triples (6), and first in steals (102).

Sterling took over the first base spot this season and had her best offensive year in her two seasons at LC. She became just the second player in program history with 10 or more home runs in a season, joining Jodi Montagnino from the 2010 season who hit 13 that year. She led the Wildcats with 35 RBI this year as well as slugging percentage at .690 which was the third highest percentage in history. She had two years of solid offensive production for LC after transferring in to join the team prior to the 2018 season. She ranks first with a .606 career slugging percentage, sixth in home runs with 13, ninth in hit by pitches with 10, and tenth in batting average at .341.
