PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University softball team tried to rally late from an early deficit, but the comeback attempt came up just short in a 3-2 Senior Day loss to the Texas A&M-Victoria Jaguars Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Park.
Texas A&M-Victoria (24-15, 15-9 RRAC) jumped ahead of Louisiana Christian (22-20, 12-12 RRAC) in the top of the second inning by plating all three of their runs in the contest.
The Wildcats pulled one back in the bottom of the third inning.
Mariel Medrano reached on a fielder's choice, stole second, and came home on
Isabella Battaglia's base hit to right field, making it 3-1.
LCU's biggest threat to jump ahead came in the bottom of the sixth inning. Chrsitina Curtis led off the inning with a double to center and
Emily Marks came in to run for her.
Carley Koch's base hit to right with one out moved Marks to third. With
Kaitlyn Roberts now running for Koch,
Madelyn Bourgoyne came through with a base hit through the left side which scored Marks.
Kate Daigle drew a walk with two outs to load the bases, putting the leading run in scoring position, but it was not to be as a fly ball to left ended the threat.
Curtis led the Wildcat offense, going 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and stole a base. Her pinch runner, Marks, scored a run.
Medrano was 1-for-4, stole two bases, and scored a run.
Battaglia was 1-for-4 with a RBI.
Bourgoyne was 1-for-3 with a RBI.
Addison Greak (4-5) got the start and threw 2.1 innings, allowing five hits and three runs, two earned, with three walks and no strikeouts.
Olivia Falcon finished the contest, throwing the final 4.2 innings, allowing four hits and no runs while striking out one and walking two.
The Wildcats head across the Red River for the final series of the season, taking on #16 LSU Alexandria. First pitch of Friday's series opener against the #16 Generals (28-14, 20-4 RRAC) is set for 6 p.m. at the Generals Softball Field.
