Crochet Named Pitcher of the Week

Junior righty Cameron Crochet has been named the American Southwest Conference Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon. This is the first weekly honor for Crochet in her career and the first pitching honor for Louisiana College this season.

Crochet tossed a complete game shutout against Concordia for the Wildcats' only win of the series over the Tornado. She relied on her defense to make plays behind her with only one strikeout but no hard hit balls, even among the six hits she allowed in the game. The best chance for the Tornado to score came in the fourth after the first two batters reached and moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt, putting runners at second and third with one-out. Freshman Maicey Spillers made a nice play on an attempted squeeze bunt to get the runner at the plate, and Crochet would get the next batter on a soft liner to short for the final out to keep CTX off the board.

Saturday's start was the first in almost a month for Crochet, her last coming on March 30 at Hardin-Simmons, a 5.1 inning outing the Cats ended up losing in walk-off fashion to the Cowgirls, giving a no-descion to Crochet. This was her third complete game of the year, going 1-1 in her previous two full game outings. Crochet has a 4.29 ERA on the season after the shutout with 30 strikeouts on the year to 19 walks in 65.1 innings of work.

The Wildcats will host UT Tyler in a midweek series starting with Tuesday evening's doubleheader at 5pm and Wednesday's single game at 1 pm.
