Box Score

The Louisiana College women's basketball team pushed their winning streak to four games in a row on Thursday night with an easy 74-54 win over a depleted University of the Ozarks. The win is the 10th of the season for the Wildcats in American Southwest Conference play, the first 10 conference win season since 2013-14. LC will finish regular season play on Saturday afternoon with a 2 p.m. tip-off against the University of Texas at Tyler at the Rapides Coliseum.

The Eagles were in for a tough night from the very beginning of the game with only eight available players, and the Wildcats took advantage early. Down 6-4 early in the game, the Wildcats took firm control with a 21-1 run over the final 7:35 of the first quarter to take the 25-7 lead after the first 10 minutes.

Despite the lack of bodies, the Eagles fought their way back in the second quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 18-11, but still trailed by double figures at the half 36-25. The Wildcats stretched their lead to 21 by the midway point of the second but the Eagles finished strong with a 12-2 run, making 6-of-8 free throws during that time. Neither team was shooting the lights out of the Rapides Coliseum in the first half, with the Wildcats going 33 percent from the field and Ozarks even lower at 26 percent for the half.

The Wildcats cruised through the third quarter with ease, finding an answer for every point the Eagles scored and pushed their lead back to 20 by the end of the period at 56-36. Things got interesting in the fourth quarter though, as once again the Eagles battled their way back from the big deficit and cut the lead down to eight with just under four minutes left in the game. Ozarks had a 16-4 run through the first six minutes of the fourth, to get within single digits, but the Wildcats finished the game on a 14-2 run that sealed the game and the big win.

Jonika Walton earned her second double-double off the season off the bench with 10 points and 10 rebounds. RyDeja McQuarn and Rachel Johnson were the only other players to reach double figures in the game with 13 and 12 points each. Johnson also added eight rebounds int eh game. Kourtney McGhee finished with nine points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

The Wildcats end their regular season scheule on Saturday afternoon with a 2 p.m. tip-off against UT Tyler at Rapides Coliseum. The game will be the final one at home for four LC seniors as they will be recognized between the women's and men's game Saturday afternoon.
