Box Score Box ScoreUpdated Season StatsUpdated ASC StandingsRichardson, Texas - An off night of shooting from the field was the deciding factor on Thursday as the Louisiana College women's basketball team fell to UT-Dallas by a final score of 67-53 in Richardson, Texas.
The Comets avenged their earlier loss against the Lady Cats early in the season by holding LC to just 28% (18-64) shooting from the field and 16.7% (3-18) shooting from beyond the three-point arc.
The two teams battled close early, with UT-Dallas leading the majority of the first 20 minutes until a Brianna Harris jumper at the 7:28 gave the Lady Cats a 16-15 lead, their first of the night.
LC would stretch that lead all the way out to five points at 20-15 on a pair of free throws from
Kaci Willis at the 6:38 mark.
But the Comets would come storming back, ending the half on an 18-6 run to take a 33-26 lead into the locker room after outscoring the Lady Cats 14-5 in points off turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
LC would come out quickly in the second half, cutting the Comet lead to three points at 37-34 on a
Keana Frank three-pointer less than three minutes into the second half.
The Comets would again go on a run to keep LC from regaining any momentum, as a 12-3 run put UT-Dallas back ahead by double digits at the 11:14 on a layup from Nicolette Erkman to make the score 49-36.
The veteran Lady Cats would show no signs of quit, however, as they went on an 11-3 run of their own over the next five and a half minutes to get within two possessions at 52-47 with 6:38 remaining in regulation.
That would be as close as LC would get the rest of the night though, as the Comets closed the game out on a 15-6 run to take the 67-53 win and prevent the Lady Cats from catching them in the conference standings.
The loss drops LC's record to 13-5 overall with a 10-5 mark in ASC play. While they still remain in third place despite the setback, they now fall two games behind UT-Dallas (17-4, 13-3) for second place in the conference standings.
LC's next game will be at home on Saturday against Hardin-Simmons (10-10, 8-7) at 1:00 p.m. in the H.O. West Fieldhouse. The Cowgirls currently sit fifth in the ASC standings.Â
