PINEVILLE, La. – It seems every time the Louisiana College women take the floor another historical moment occurs. Thursday night was no different as both the Lady Cats and senior guard
Roslyn Wilmer reached milestones in a 102-62 win over American Southwest Conference opponent Ozarks.
LC (13-2, 10-1 ASC), which eclipsed the 100-point mark for the fifth time this season, set a new conference record for three-pointers attempted with 60 but it was Wilmer (Marksville, La./Marksville HS) who stole the show.
By virtue of her game-high 26 points, Wilmer became the newest entrant into the Louisiana College women's 1000-point club, joining former Lady Cats Patrece Carter (2000-04) and Tillisha Givens (2007-11) as one of just three women achieve this mark in the last decade.
Wilmer was also good for seven boards, four assists and three steals. She hit on 10-of-14 field goal attempts in the game and 2-of-6 three-pointers.
As a team, LC connected on 16-of-60 three-pointers.
Joining Wilmer in double figures Thursday night were LC senior guard
Shasidy Ludgood and sophomore forward
Melody Criswell (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS).
Criswell finished with 14 points, four rebounds, four steals and four assists while Ludgood scored 11 points, grabbed two rebounds and made three steals.
Keana Franks (Elton, La./Kinder HS),
Skylar Chenevert (Glenmora, La./Plainview HS) and
Natosha Gottlieb (Alexandria, La./Bolton HS) scored nine points apiece for the Lady Cats.
Ozarks (8-8, 6-7 ASC) was led by April Young with 13 points and seven rebounds, Sabrina Goddard with 13 points and Ashley Barry with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Defensively, the Lady Cats were again solid, forcing 40 turnovers, 20 via steal, and scoring 43 points off turnovers in the game.
LC , currently in first place in the ASC's East Division, will host second place Texas-Dallas (15-2, 11-2) at 1 p.m. on Saturday with the winner assuming a spot in the driver's seat in the division race.
