MARSHALL, Texas – Natosha Gottlieb put on a show at the start of the second half, scoring nine points in 38 seconds Thursday night as Louisiana College overcome a sluggish first half to claim a 106-73 victory over East Texas Baptist.

The Lady Cats played perhaps their best half of the season in the second half, scoring 61 points, shooting 46.8 percent from the field and outrebounding ETBU 34-22.

“We got chewed out at halftime,” senior guard Shasidy Ludgood said. “It was what we needed.”

LC had opened the game by jumping to an 11-2 lead but failed to put ETBU away and led by five, 45-40 at halftime.

“I thought our effort was there in the first half,” Gottlieb said. “We just didn't execute.”

The second half was a different story.

The Lady Cats led by one, 47-46, when Gottlieb opened our scoring spree with a long 3-pointer from the left side with 18:03 left.

Thirty-eight seconds later, after a second 3, a free throw and a layup, LC was in front by eight points at 56-48 with 17:25 to play.

“Tosha came out and got after them,” LC coach Jason Tinsley said.

“That's the thing about our team,” Ludgood said. “You know that everyone we play feels like they need to stop Ros (senior Roslyn Wilmer). They do that and Tosha goes off. If they stop Tosha, it might be me or someone else who goes off.”

Gottlieb finished with a season-high 30 points to go with nine rebound, five steals and four assists in 23 minutes.

“What I really liked wasn't that she scored 30 points,” Tinsley said. “What I liked was that she scored 30 points without forcing up a bunch of shots. She shot 50 percent (10 of 20) from the field.”

Wilmer finished with 17 points for the Lady Cats followed by Ludgood with 14 points and freshman Kala Chenier with 10.

“I thought Shas played her best game of the season for us,” Tinsley said. “She scored 14 points, played good defense – she took three charges – and didn't turn the ball over.”

Tinsley also praised the play of point guard Shaina Howard.

“She didn't score but she had five assists and no turnovers,” Tinsley said. “That's huge.”

The Lady Cats improved to 11-2 overall and 9-1 in the American Southwest Conference. ETBU fell to 5-8 overall and 3-6 in league play.
