PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana College women finished their home schedule in style, downing Texas-Tyler 101-75 in American Southwest Conference play on a Senior Night during which LC bid farewell to four players.
Among the four seniors honored prior to the game were All-American Tillisha Givens, guard Janet Butler, guard/forward Kayle Guidry and guard Briana Lewis., all of whom pitched in for LC, which eclipsed the century mark for the first time since the 1990s.
The game started out well for the Lady Cats (18-1, 15-1 ASC) who, dressed in all-pink uniforms, managed to get six players into double-figure scoring and run away from the Patriots (9-12, 7-9 ASC).
Junior Roslyn Wilmer was the top scorer for the game, putting up 24. Givens checked in with a13-point, 17-rebound double-double while LaQuita Armstead had a career night scoring 13 points and pulling down 11 rebounds for a double-double of her own.
Guidry was good for 19 points in her final home game in an LC uniform while Butler accounted for 12 points on 4-for-7 shooting from three-point range and Shaina Howard 11 points.
It was classic LC women's basketball, with the Lady Cats producing 25 points off of turnovers and 20 off of the fast break.
Although the game turned into a lopsided affair, by the end of the first half, the Lady Cats were able to build a 49-37 lead thanks to 21 points off of turnovers and 12 on fast breaks.
The Lady Cats wasted no time building on that lead in the second half, with Guidry and Lewis scoring quick baskets to bump the LC lead to 57-43. From there, the rout ensued.
In the last minute of the game, the Lady Cats were able to surpass the 100-point mark when Shasidy Ludgood nailed a three-pointer to up the score from 98 to 101. (9-12, 7-9 ASC).
Though the home campaign has ended for the Wildcats, there remain four games in the regular season and LC will begin its stretch run with visits to Ozarks on Thursday night and Texas Dallas on Saturday.
