Box Score
ABILENE, Texas - The game didn't start the way the Lady Wildcats wanted, but it ended just fine as Louisiana College overcame an eight-point halftime deficit and a 28-point, 25-rebound double-double by Cowgirls All-American Lindsey Newcombe to secure an 85-71 road win in American Southwest Conference play.

Hardin-Simmons (8-2, 5-2 ASC) was up 38-30 on LC at the half, but the Lady Cats (11-0, 7-0 ASC) outscored the Cowgirls 55-33 in the second session to pull away with the double-digit win thanks to shooting 49 percent from the field on the night (55 percent in the second half).

Contrary to form, LC's women for the first time did not force double-digit steals in a game as only nine of Hardin-Simmons' 21 turnovers came in that fashion.

What the Lady Wildcats did do was shutdown the most of the Cowgirls' offense. Aside from Newcombe, only Jasmine Lewis (13 points) reached double-digit scoring for Hardin-Simmons.

LC had four women reach that mark, most notably All-American Tillisha Givens, who put up a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double of her own.

Roslyn Wilmer was the Lady Cats' top scorer with 20 points to go along with five rebounds and three steals with Natosha Gottlieb adding 16 points and Briana Lewis 12 in the winning effort.

The Lady WiIldcats will remain on the road but not have to travel far for their next contest, which will also take place in Abiline where, Saturday at 1 p.m., LC will face McMurry in conference play.
