Box Score
TYLER, Texas – Every coach who ever preached the importance of free throws might want to get the film, or at least the box score, from the Louisiana College women's 77-69 American Southwest Conference win over Texas-Tyler Thursday night.
LC (16-1, 12-1 ASC) shot 80 percent, 24-30 (19-of-22 in the second half), compared to Tyler's 18-for-30 (60 percent) output from the charity stripe, enough to bring the Lady Cats back from a 41-36 halftime deficit.
Appropriately, all three LC women who reached double figures in scoring made at least a portion of their impact at the line.
Senior forward TIllisha Givens, who finished with a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double, went 10-for-12 at the free throw line while junior guard Roslyn Wilmer scored more than half of her 16 points by going 9-for-10 at the line.
Even senior guard/forward Kayla Guidry, who led the Lady Cats with 21, was solid, going 4-for-4 on free throws.
Texas-Tyler (9-9, 7-6 ASC) came up short against LC despite having big games from three players, chief among them Melissa Thomas, who scored a game-high 25.
Paige Parrish was good for 13 points and Alex Boyd 11 in the loss.
Next up for Louisiana College is a Saturday afternoon visit to LeTourneau in Longview, Texas, for the second half of a two-game, conference road trip.
