PINEVILLE, La. – It was perhaps the least likely blowout one could have predicted but the Louisiana College women overcame a three-point halftime deficit to defeat American Southwest Conference foe Texas Dallas 79-59 here Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Cats (14-1, 10-1 ASC), ranked No. 20 in the latest D3Hoops.com poll, shot just 30 percent from the field and 50 percent at the free-throw line in the first half and subsequently trailed 30-27 at the break.
In the second half, however, LC improved to 48.5 percent from the field and 94.4 percent from the fre-throw line, outscored Texas Dallas 52-29 and logged another win.
Tillisha Givens and Kayla Guidry, both seniors, led the charge for the Lady Cats, scoring 14 points apiece with Givens adding eight rebounds.
Janet Butler scored 11 points and Roslyn Wilmer 10 with five steals in the contest for LC with Natosha Gottlieb adding eight points, 13 rebounds and three blocks for LC, but it was solid days from Shasidy Ludgood (nine points, two steals) and LaQuita Armstead (eight points) that carried the Lady Cats through.
Texas Dallas (14-4, 10-3 ASC) was paced by Tarneisha Scott (18 points, nine rebounds) and Lyndsey Smith (14 points).
Next up for LC is a showdown with rival Mississippi College, the team currently chasing LC for first place in the ASC East, at 5:30 p.m. this Monday. It will be the Lady Cats' third game in five days
