Wildcats Sweep Southwest In Slugfest As Gotreaux Walks It Off In Tenth

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University baseball program recorded its first series sweep of the season in a dramatic slugfest as the Cats needed to stage a comeback nearly every inning before holding off one by the Mustangs late, ending with a walk-off winner in the bottom of the tenth.

For the second straight ballgame, the bats exploded for season-highs in numerous categories including 21 hits, 15 runs scored, 13 RBIs, 11 walks, 4 stolen bases, and a .457 average while the pitching staff struck out 11 players.

Wildcats Top Performers:

  • Hunter Gotreaux was the hero of game three, enacting revenge after grounding into a rally-killing double play of a tie contest in the eighth, stepping up and delivering a walk-off single that went soaring over a drawn in center fielder to earn himself a well-deserved Gatorade bath.

                        * In totality, the Lake Charles native went 2-for-4 (.500) with two RBIs and two runs scored, also reaching on a hit-by-pitch and stealing two bases.

  • On a gloomy day for pitchers on each side, one student-athlete rose above them all as Kade Linn blew the visitors back to Hobbs, New Mexico, coming on to strikeout the side and earn the victory (2-3).

  • Out of the four home runs hit on the afternoon, Nick Lorio was the only Wildcat to power one out of sight, hitting his second round-tripper of the year and fifth of his career, adding the solo shot into his 3-of-7 (.429) line that saw him collect three ribbies in addition to a pair of scores.

  • Harrison Waxley was THAT DUDE on Saturday, piling up a career-best five hits over six at-bats (.833) with two doubles and a pair of RBI singles on top of wearing a bean ball pitch.

  • Braxton Cooksey registered hits in half of his official ABs (3-for-6), doubling and walking once each, batting in two runs, putting two runs on the board as a runner and also stealing second.

  • Three men drew multiple walks and they all did so in vastly different ways:

                        * Adrian Aguilar logged six total plate appearances, grabbing knocks in two of them, scoring twice, and a ribbie.

                        * Gavin Vordick came on in right field for Braden McLin and ended up with a 0-for-1 line with a pair of ball fours.

                        * Braden Trull's were the most bizarre, never getting a chance to even swing the bat as both times he stepped into the box, he was intentionally walked.
