Fontenot Dismantles Mustangs As Diamond Cats Romp To First RRAC Win

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University baseball program was mired in a six-game losing streak but snapped out of it in emphatic fashion, riding a masterclass complete game outing from Cy Fontenot and a season-high six doubles from a rejuvenated offense to a comfortable 9-1 series opening dub in seven innings.

Wildcats Top Performers:

  • Fontenot halted the skid in style, going the distance for the fourth time in his career and tying his personal-best of seven frames while not allowing an earned run (one unearned), striking out more Mustangs (7) than he let reach base (4) as USW tallied only two knocks and two walks.

  • Nick Lorio was on fire in game one, going 3-for-4 (.750) with a pair of doubles and runs scored, driving home a run on one of them.

  • Harrison Waxley was the only player with a multi-RBI effort, bringing one of his teammates home on each knock, a hot shot double down the left field line in the first and a single through the right side of the infield the following at-bat.

  • Brady Sers and Logan Bertucci both knew their roles and executed, walking in his pinch-hit plate appearance before scoring while Logan Bertucci drew four balls as well but was not brought around the bases.

  • Both of Brady Huffman's hits went for two-baggers, scorching his pitches over the outfielder's heads with a score plus a ribbie to show for it.

  • Adrian Aguilar's double gave the Orange and Blue a half-dozen on the day to break the tie for the most this campaign and Braden Trull played situational baseball to cap the scoring, lofting a sac fly RBI in the sixth to let Braxton Cooksey trot home.
