Nine-Run Ninth Lifts LSUA Past Wildcats In Baseball’s Stunning RRAC Opener

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University baseball program were coasting to a dominant shutout victory in their conference opener heading into the ninth before disaster struck as their Red River Rivals from LSU Alexandria pushed nine runs across in the final frame to down the Diamond Cats in a 9-7 heartbreaker.

Wildcats Top Performers:

  • Jacob Bareswill has blossomed into a top-of-the-rotation arm for Pitching Coach Brooks Southall, wheeling and dealing to his fourth start out of five in which he allowed zero earned runs, keeping the Generals off the scoreboard entirely during a seven-inning, nine-strikeout masterpiece where just five hitters (four hits, one walk) got aboard.

  • Braxton Cooksey connected on his tied for team-high third dinger of 2025, cranking one over the high metal fence in left as part of a 2-for-4 day that saw him score both times he reached.

  • Nick Lorio tallied two RBIs in addition to a pair of steals on Friday while Tyler McKenna got both of his ribbies on one swing, a rocketed double into the gap which brought home Lorio as well as Caleb Duhon on top of walking once.

  • Gavin Vordick has continuously raked in the early portion of the campaign, boosting his RRAC Freshman of the Year case further with a 3-of-4 afternoon where he also walked, totaled four bases (double plus two singles) and knocked in a run.

  • Brady Huffman responded to an error in left field with a big day at the dish, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Adrian Aguilar picked up an RBI, and Jake Messina smacked a two-bagger to go along with a free pass.

  • Kade Linn took the shutout from Bareswill and extended it into the ninth, facing five batters unscathed, ceding a walk and a double to put two runners in scoring position before pulling a Houdini act (1-3 groundout, lineout to shortstop, strikeout).

Next:

  • Head Coach Mike Byrnes' unit will attempt to rebound from this setback and take the series with a pair of seven inning showdowns with the Generals beginning at noon on Saturday.
