Old-Fashioned Pitcher’s Duel Favors Diamond Cats In Opener

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University baseball program saw all three of the game's runs come in the third, capitalizing on a pickoff attempt gone haywire to score the go-ahead baserunner while a trio of pitchers locked down the Warriors' sticks for a tightly contested 2-1 dub.

Wildcats Top Performers:

  • Jacob Bareswill made his second straight stellar start for Head Coach Mike Byrnes, yielding just one unearned run and three hits (plus a hit batter) with nary a walk plus a pair of Ks, improving to 2-0.

  • Cowan Alfonso produced a perfect 1-2-3 seventh in order to hammer down save number two of his debut campaign donning Orange and Blue.

  • Gavin Vordick, another newcomer to the 2025 edition of Wildcats baseball, drove in the lone RBI of the afternoon with a infield single to score pinch-runner Caleb Duhon while also collecting an addition knock and scoring the winning run on the botched pickoff during a 2-for-3 opener.

  • Six-foot, 235-pounder Braden Trull showed off his wheels for his second career stolen base after making it on-base the hard way, a bean ball to the helmet.

  • Kade Linn danced out of danger in the sixth and would receive a hold if the statistics was kept at the collegiate level, striking out one Midland batter while tightroping through a pair of runners in his three outs of work.

  • Nick Lorio was the only other student-athlete to notch multiple successful plate appearances, singling once and coaxing a free pass on the other.
