Men’s Basketball Scores Second Top-25 Road Upset At #20 OLLU

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Louisiana Christian University men's basketball program entered the season on the wrong end of nine consecutive games against NAIA top-25 competition but have now claimed a pair of victims in four attempts in 2024-25, putting #20 Our Lady of the Lake's notch next to #14 LSU Shreveport's under its belt with a 75-69 statement win, the Wildcats' third in-a-row.

Since rejoining the NAIA prior to the 2021-22 campaign, LCU sports a 5-17 (22.7%) overall mark with all of them being inside the Red River Athletic Conference.

The defensive side of the ball shown brightly, holding the high-flying Saints to its second-fewest points to-date (69), 18 points lower than its season average, primarily by eliminating the perimeter shooting, allowing the least three-pointers (3) and lowest long-ball percentage (23.1%) in a league contest this season in addition to forcing 20+ turnovers for the third time.

  • Jonothon Barnes led all players with four steals, a season-best, and sunk a trio of buckets (also a season-high) while dishing out a pair of dimes and dropping eight points.

  • Chukwuemeke Nwaoshai has established a rhythm in the paint, hauling in double-digit rebounds in each of his past three appearances and his sixth overall after tallying a team-most 11 on top of blocking a campaign/game-high three shots.

  • Devin Carter has yet to score less than 14 points in a contest since joining the club, hitting that threshold for the 11th consecutive outing as the nation's three-point per game leader nailed three more from distance.

  • Bryce Weinmunson was the leader in the clubhouse as far as scoring was concerned, putting 16 points on the scoreboard by shooting 50% from the field (6-for-12) while notching at least one of each major statistic; rebounds (4), assists (1), steals (1), blocks (1), three-pointers (1), and free throws (3).
