Baseball Looking To Run It Back In 2025

1/7/2025 3:00:00 PM

PINEVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Christian University baseball program will try to build off its 2024 RRAC Tournament Championship season and make back-to-back postseason runs for the first time since 2002-03 via a home-heavy, powerhouse-laden slate that includes six ranked foes (preseason poll) with four of them coming to Billy Allgood Field.

The Diamond Cats start their title defense with consecutive home doubleheaders against NAIA Tournament participants, opening the year versus #13 Mid-America Christian at 3/6 p.m. on January 24 and #12 Kansas Wesleyan the following day at 12/3 p.m., who is the lone adversary that made a World Series run last year on the docket.

John Melvin makes the short drive up from Crowley for a three-game series to end January and begin February in their first season as a countable opponent.

Head Coach Mike Byrnes will take his men to Sterlington to take part in the Cajun Collision for the fourth year in-a-row, kicking off the tournament with another two national qualifiers on Friday, February 7 against #14 Central Methodist and Park (Missouri) before going up opposite Georgetown (Kentucky) as well as Indiana-Kokomo on Saturday.

A single-game matinee welcomes the Orange and Blue back inside the friendly confines vs. Champion Christian on February 10 before snowbirds fly south in the form of the Midland Warriors out of Fremont, Nebraska for a four-contest weekend series from February 14-15.

As is the case with softball, the team's Red River Rivals from across the way start conference competition on February 21-22 before its first true road series of the regular season against the other LSU school, the fourth-ranked LSU Shreveport Pilots, the next weekend (February 28-March 1).

Continuing the trend of non-conference juggernauts invading Pineville, #21 Loyola (New Orleans) returns to LCU on Tuesday, March 4 for a 3 p.m. start.

Southwest (New Mexico) makes the strenuous journey to central Louisiana from March 8-9 and the Wiley Wildcats arrive for another Tuesday throwdown on March 11.

Only the second road series over the first two months involves heading to Slidell, Louisiana to take on Xavier from March 14-15 before welcoming the other squad from the Big Easy (Dillard) to campus on March 18.

The final six Red River Athletic Conference series' will alternate between staying home and riding the bus as follows: vs. (RV) Houston-Victoria (March 21-22), at Our Lady of the Lake (March 28-29), vs. Jarvis Christian (April 4-5), at Huston-Tillotson (April 11-12), vs. Texas A&M-Texarkana (April 17-18), and at Texas College (April 25-26).

A pair of Tuesday ballgames away from LCU are sprinkled into that above stretch on April 15 for a return visit to Loyola in Westwego on top of another crack at the McNeese Cowboys in Lake Charles on April 22.

The seniors will be honored on April 18 prior to the noon first pitch versus Texarkana for the annual Senior Day celebration.

The hard-hitters from CenLa eye its second straight tournament title back in Sterlington from May 1-5, trying for ring number two.
