Baseball Receiving 39 Votes In First NAIA Top 25 Poll Of Regular Season

3/13/2024 11:57:00 AM

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Louisiana Christian University baseball program has gotten off to a blistering 17-5 start, winning seven of its first nine conference games in the process, and was rewarded by receiving 39 votes in the first NAIA Top 25 Poll of the regular season.

Checking in as the 31st-best team in the country and one of two teams in the Red River Athletic Conference on the list, this is the first time that the Cats have been mentioned among the nation's top squads since returning to the NAIA following the 2021 campaign and the first time receiving Top 25 votes at any level since nabbing six in Week 10 of its final season as a NCAA Division III member of the American Southwest Conference.

The only other RRAC ballclub to make the cut was #3 LSU Shreveport who, along with LSU Alexandria, were the two teams picked to finish above the Orange and Blue in the preseason poll with LCU already winning its one series with the Generals this year.

The Wildcats will host the third-ranked and unanimous league favorite Pilots inside Billy Allgood Field on Friday, April 5 (6 p.m.) and Saturday, April 6 (12 p.m. / 3 p.m.) for what could be the deciding series to determine the conference's regular season champion with the teams currently sitting at one and two in the standings as of this writing. They will also end the year against one another on Tuesday, April 30 in Shreveport for a non-conference clash.

Looking at the remainder of the schedule, only one other Top 25 opponent is left outside of LSUS when Louisiana Christian completes its home-and-home series at #15 Loyola (New Orleans) with a single contest on Tuesday, April 16 down in Westwego. The two sides just played a highly entertaining, nine-inning affair on Tuesday afternoon on-campus in which the Wildcats upset the then (RV) Wolfpack by a final score of 12-9 behind big offensive performances from both Braden Trull and Harrison Waxley.
