Wildcats Top Performers:

  • Waxley made one heck of a collegiate debut after redshirting in 2023, amassing six RBIs, three doubles, three runs scored, a walk and a stolen base while going 4-for-5 (.800) at the dish.

  • The highlight on the bump was game two starter Dylan Beier who tossed five scoreless innings in which he struck out four and yielded just four hits, all while walking none on his way to the victory.

  • Braxton Cooksey got the nod as the official opening day starter, striking out the side for a perfect first frame and fanning five total over three full to pick up the dub.

  • Jayden Drake showcased filthy stuff out of Coach Byrnes' bullpen, allowing a single base runner and tallying four of his six outs via the strikeout.

  • Caleb Duhon played the role of table setter perfectly, reaching base five times out of the lead off spot by way of four walks plus a single, swiping a pair of bases and scoring once in the process.

  • Nicholas Brunet drove home a pair of runners and scored twice himself with Brady Sers joining Waxley in the doubles department by lacing a two-run frozen rope back up the middle.

Notes:

  • The Wildcats have now opened the year with the fledgling program (started in 2023) out of NOLA the past two seasons, outscoring the Bleu Devils 52-8 in those matchups.

  • A Sunday matinee will be on display to wrap up the first weekend of hardball as LCU attempts to keep its unblemished record against DU intact with game one set for a 2 p.m. first pitch.
