9/20/2023 1:00:00 PM

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Louisiana Christian University women's soccer program laid the smack down on their rivals in Purple and Gold on Saturday, cruising to an easy 6-1 triumph which garnered them an extra seven votes in the poll at 21 in total.

LCU has been steadily climbing the rankings ladder since missing the cut in the original preseason NAIA top 25 list, rising all the way up to a 32nd ranking as of Wednesday morning, gaining another two spots in the process.

Head Coach Kendall Ayers' squad attacks from all angles as ten separate student-athletes have contributed goals with two others scoring via assists.

Leading the onslaught has been a quartet of players with multiple goals, topped by Ema Monnet (5 goals, 3 assists) and Alicia Gurrusquieta (4 goals, 1 assist) in addition to Zoi Arkirvaki (2 goals, 3 assists) and Lindsey Jacobs (2 goals, 2 assists).

Equally important to the success has been keeping their adversaries off the scoreboard with former Red River Athletic Conference Defensive Players of the Week Maryane Mafra and Jaycee Woods spearheading the wall with the latter giving up just two goals over four starts including a save percentage of 88.2% by way of 15 stops.

A road challenge in the desert is on tap Thursday at Southwest (New Mexico) with kickoff slated for 2 p.m. central time.
