TEXARKANA, Texas – The Louisiana Christian University women's soccer team opened its four-match road trip with a tough, 3-0 loss to the Texas A&M-Texarkana Eagles Thursday night at Judy Kelley Morgan Field.
The Wildcats (4-4, 3-4 RRAC) were on the defensive almost immediately as the Eagles (9-3-2, 4-2-1 RRAC) took their first shot of the game just more than a minute into the contest.
LCU was able to get into the attacking third and win a corner kick in the fifth minute, but nothing would come of the opportunity. Soon afterwards, the play was back in LCU defensive half.
TAMUT broke through with a pair of quick goals, striking for the first in the 23
rd minute and getting the second in the 25
th minute. The Eagles would add the third in the 34
th minute to take the 3-0 lead into the half. No goals were scored in the final 45 minutes.
Louisiana Christian took five shots as a team, putting three on target. Both
Ana Guedes and
Giovanna Rocha took two shots each with Guedes putting both of her attempts on frame while one of Rocha's shots was on target.
Yvie Miller took LCU's other shot in the contest, which was off the mark.
Marta Papandrea (1-2) played all 90 minutes in net for the Wildcats and was credited with six saves on the evening as A&M-Texarkana peppered her net with 20 shots during the 90 minutes.
The Wildcats look to rebound on Saturday the second match of the road swing, taking on Jarvis Christian. Kickoff of Saturday's match against the Bulldogs (1-10-1, 1-5 RRAC) is set for 1 p.m. in Hawkins, Texas at Wendon L. Blair Field.
