STERLINGTON, La. – Houston-Victoria handed the Wildcats of Louisiana Christian University a stunning setback Saturday at the Red River Athletic Conference baseball tournament as the Jaguars won 13-2 in seven innings.
The No. 6-seeded Jaguars scored seven unanswered runs over the first three innings and then pulled away for good with six more runs in the fifth inning.
The loss sends LCU (35-14) to an elimination game Sunday, when the Wildcats will face Texas A&M–Texarkana. First pitch is scheduled for a 1 p.m. at the Sterlington Sports Complex. A win in that game will give the 'Cats another game Sunday at 5 p.m.
Nicholas Brunet went 2-for-3 for the 'Cats and scored the team's first run on
Braxton Cooksey's RBI single.
The Wildcats faced UHV twice in last year's RRAC Tournament, and are 2-2 against the Jaguars this season.
