PINEVILLE – Louisiana Christian University's baseball team opens their final Red River Athletic Conference series of the season this weekend when they welcome Texas A&M–Texarkana to Billy Allgood Field.
The Wildcats (28-12, 20-7 RRAC) host a Saturday doubleheader against A&M–Texarkana, with first pitch in the opening game scheduled for 1 p.m. The teams will conclude their series Sunday with a single 1 p.m. game.
Though the series will be the last conference series season for the Wildcats, Billy Allgood Field is scheduled to host four more LCU non-conference baseball games next week. If weather permits – a big "if" the past couple of months – the Wildcats will complete their conference slate of 30 games by weekend's end and have the bye weekend the following week.
The Wildcats will try to hold on to second place in the RRAC standings this weekend and try to fend off intra-parish rival LSU–Alexandria. The Generals opened their weekend series with a win over Houston–Victoria on Thursday and will conclude that series Saturday.
LCU strengthened their position last weekend by taking two of three games at Houston–Victoria. Unlike a few Victoria hecklers in the stands of Riverside Stadium, the Wildcats let their bats do the talking as they swept a Saturday doubleheader by scores of 5-4 and 14-4.
The Eagles (21-19, 15-9 RRAC) of Texas A&M–Texarkana will wrap up a stretch of 10 consecutive road games when they visit Pineville this weekend. TAMUT swept their previous conference series at Xavier (La.) but lost two out three games at Huston-Tillotson the weekend prior.
Beau Hebert leads the LCU pitching staff with a 10-1 record and 2.43 ERA heading into this weekend's series.
Peyton Lamartiniere's eight home runs and 40 RBIs lead the Wildcat bats; Lamartiniere is one of seven LCU starters batting .321 or better this season.
Next week will see the Wildcats host Loyola (La.) on Tuesday, and then conclude the regular season at home against NAIA-ranked Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) in non-conference action.
