NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Christian University's baseball team opened Red River Athletic Conference play with a 10-2 triumph at Xavier (La.) Friday evening.
Adrian Aguilar,
Drake Angeron, and
Noah Gaspard collected two RBIs each, giving teammate
Cy Fontenot more than enough run support to lead the Wildcats to the win.
Fontenot, a Pineville local who transferred from the University of New Orleans, pitched seven strong innings and was not charged with an earned run. He struck out seven Xavier batters before giving the ball to teammate
Colten Newsom, who retired all six batters he faced in relief.
Gaspard's bases-loaded single gave the 'Cats (7-3, 1-0 RRAC) an early lead as
Ju'Juan Franklin and
Nicholas Brunet crossed the plate to start a five-run LCU second inning. Later in the inning, Angeron's single scored
Dylan David (catcher Gaspard's courtesy runner) and
J.T. Brice.
Haydon Helms capped the inning with an RBI single that scored
Adrian Aguilar.
Brice and
Peyton Lamartiniere knocked RBIs with two of the three doubles LCU hit in the game. Brunet also tallied an extra-base hit for the Wildcats, collecting a double among his four hits during a 4-for-6 day at the plate; Brunet also scored twice.
Also scoring two runs each in the game were Brice and
Nick Lorio.
