KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the first time in the program's history, the Louisiana Christian University women's soccer team can boast an All-American as Martina Terra Garcia rode her 22-goal season to a NAIA All-American honorable mention nod, it was announced on Tuesday.

"I am absolutely proud of Martina," said LCU Women's Soccer Head Coach Carla Tejas. "She has worked hard all year and I think this award reflects all the hard work that is behind her skills. Her teammates and coaching staff are absolutely proud of her."

Terra Garcia, a freshman from San Jacinto, Canelones, Uruguay, broke plenty of LCU single season records in her first season as a Wildcat. Her 22 goals on the season broke the program single season record for goals in a season while also leading the Red River Athletic Conference. When combined with her nine assists, her 53 points also broke a LCU single season record. Her 102 shots and 64 shots on goal were both single season program records as well.

"She is a good kid on the pitch, but even better off of it and she deserves it," continued Tejas. "She's only a freshman and I cannot wait to watch her development over the next three years."

"This is a tremendous honor for a tremendous athlete," said LCU Athletic Director Reni Mason. "There are only so many All-Americans selected, so to be chosen as one is special."

For her accomplishments during the season, Terra Garcia was previously named the Red River Athletic Conference's Newcomer of the Year and a First Team All-Conference player. She earned a conference offensive player of the week award during the season as well.

Terra Garcia and the rest of the Wildcats finished the historic 2021 season with a 16-2-1 record, 10-0-1 in the RRAC, both program records for overall wins and wins in conference play in a season. The Wildcats won both the regular season and postseason tournament championships for the Red River Athletic Conference, the first set of championships in the program's history, and advanced to the NAIA National Championship Tournament for the first time in program history, being eliminated 1-0 on a goal in the final 40 seconds by the eventual national runner-up.
