ALPINE, Texas – The 2020 portion of the schedules for both Louisiana College basketball teams begin on Thursday night, while also kicking off American Southwest Conference play, with both the men's and women's teams take on Sul Ross State on the road.
While the Wildcat women's team (2-6, 0-0 ASC) looks to get back on the winning side of the ledger, they do so looking for a bit of revenge against the Lobos (2-8, 0-1 ASC) in their second meeting of the season, with this one counting towards ASC standings. Back on November 16
th, the Wildcats dropped a 70-68 decision to the Lobos at the East Texas Baptist Classic. Both teams will be looking to get the offense in gear as LC averages 58.8 points per game, while SRSU scored 60.6 points each time out. The Wildcats are currently led by Fr. G
ZyUnn Cormier, who's averaging 13.3 points through six games so far this season. The leading scorer for the Lobos this season is Sr. F Chandre Nunez at 15.9 points in ten contests.
On the men's side, the Wildcats (6-3, 0-0 ASC) will look to extend its current win streak to the longest of the season, having won their previous two contests. LC has won four of its last five contests heading into the ASC opener, but the Wildcats know the defense will have to be on point against the Lobos (4-6, 1-0 ASC). Sul Ross averages 84.5 points per game, more than LC's 75.7 points per contest. But the Lobos also surrender 84.5 a contest, while the Wildcats have held their opponents to just 71.1 points throughout the 2019 portion of the schedule. Jr. G
Kae'ron Baker has been hot to start the season, averaging 20.4 points per game so far this season on 46.9% shooting, including 44.4% from above the three-point arc. The inside defenders will have to try and lock down Sul Ross's Jr. F Logan Dixon, who is averaging 18.2 points per contest.
The Wildcats and Sul Ross St. kick off tonight's doubleheader with the women's game starting at 5:30 P.M. at the Pete P. Gallego Center.
